Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry that seeks to eliminate poverty, housing and homelessness from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience an action.  Habitat has built nearly 300,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1.5 million people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.  

 

This year Melissa and Ed invite LIREIA members to join them and donate to  this fine organization to benefit Tina Springer, a hardworking, single mother raising her two children in Freeport, N.Y. Tina has been living in the same apartment for several years and has provided a sense of stability for them.  Tina applied for a Habitat home in 2006, and wrote a personal letter. In it, she writes “I know that if I had a little help in changing our lives that I would be able to maintain a life that my children long for and deserve”

 

Join in and help Tina, a local single mom achieve the “American Dream” with their new first home.   LIREIA will host a 50/50 raffle to benefit Tina Springer and her children, and Melissa and Ed will match all cash donations up to $5,000.   

 

Items needed for donation:  lawnmower, rakes, snowshovels, mailbox, cleaning supplies - including mop, broom, etc., toiletries, window blinds, $500 gift certificate to Bed, Bath and Beyond, bed sheets, blankets, etc., $1000 gift certificate to Home Depot - fence, etc.
